Trudeau Confirms Canada Has Secured 'Tens Of Millions' Of Moderna's COVID-19 Vaccine

The vaccine candidate has been over 94% effective so far!
Managing Editor, Canada

Justin Trudeau has spoken out about securing doses of the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine in Canada.

In a tweet shared on November 17, the PM said the news that the vaccine is over 94% effective in trial stages is “encouraging.”

He also confirmed that the country had secured "tens of millions" of doses of Moderna's candidate.

Despite the glimmer of hope on the horizon, he urged Canadians not to relax when it comes to following public health advice.

He warned that the potential vaccine “won’t help you if you get sick right now.”

“It can only protect you once you’ve had the shot,” he added.

Trudeau shared a similar message last week when he confirmed that Canada was also in line for “millions” of the Pfizer vaccine candidate — also showing promising results in its trial stages.

He revealed that he hoped shots could arrive in the country by early 2021.

“Until then, we must continue to follow public health rules,” he concluded on Tuesday.

The PM's advice included “wearing our masks, washing our hands, and keeping our distance,” as well as downloading the COVID-19 Alert App.
