You can actually visit the dock in New York City that Titanic survivors arrived at and it's super eerie.

When the 706 survivors arrived in NYC on April 18, 1912, they did not dock at the Titanic's original destination.

706 Survivors of the Titanic disaster

Rather, they arrived at Pier 54 at the dock of the RMS Carpathia — the ship that rescued them.

Thousands of anxious family members crowded Pier 54 — aka the Cunard White Star pier — waiting for loved ones, but many were greeted with tragic news.

To this day, you can visit that pier where petrified survivors finally set foot on solid ground and where so many were met with heartbreak and despair.

The Titanic isn't the only disaster associated with the pier's dark history

Three years later in 1915, the RMS Lusitania left Pier 54 before being torpedoed by a German U-boat on May 7, resulting in the deaths of about 1,200 passengers.

The ghostly gates of Pier 54 still stand to this day, and if you look closely, you can still see the faint, rusted lettering that spells Cunard White Star.
