Residents took to the streets in awe after Spain's record-breaking snowfall — the "most intense" snowstorm the country has seen in over 50 years, reports the BBC.

Storm Filomena hit Spain over the weekend, bringing travel to a standstill as up to 50 centimetres of snow blanketed the capital city of Madrid. Residents took to the streets in a big way to celebrate the first major snowfall in decades.

Naturally, gleeful snowball fights broke out.

A giant T-Rex can be seen taking in the new snowfall.

Innovative skiers and snowboarders hit the makeshift slopes.

There was certainly no shortage of snowmen populating Madrid over the weekend.

And there were even a few R-rated snowmen to be found.
