The BC weather forecast calls for intense winds and says 'many people' may have power outages
Strong wind gusts are hitting B.C., leaving many without power as a "potent system" makes it way through.
The stormy weather hit parts of Vancouver island on Monday night, bringing strong wind gusts and big waves. The Weather Network (TWN) said that the windy weather is set to go into Tuesday morning, "so many people may wake up to power outages."
The winds going into Tuesday morning are expected to be the strongest for Greater Victoria and coastal parts of Vancouver Island, but the Lower Mainland is also seeing intense gusts.
The peak wind timing for the Tsawwassen, Boundary Bay, Delta, and White Rock is 12 a.m. to 6 a.m. on Tuesday, with gusts possibly surpassing 70 km/h.
West Vancouver Island could see more than 50 mm of rain total, while northern Vancouver is likely to receive over 30 mm.
TWN has cautioned travelers about potential disruptions, particularly ferry services, due to the hazardous conditions early Tuesday.
"Another period of drier-than-normal weather, with mild temperatures, is expected to return by mid-week, and will continue through early March. However, an unsettled pattern should return before we get too deep into March," TWN added.
As of Tuesday morning, BC Hydro's outage list indicates that thousands of customers across the province are affected by multiple power outages.
