Multiple weather alerts are in place for parts of B.C., as possible freezing rain and additional snow are set to start the week, after a weekend of heavy snowfall for some.

The winter storm brought heavy snow to some areas of B.C.'s North Coast, with totals up to 40 cm in some spots and another 10 cm set to fall.

Environment Canada issued a winter storm warning for the North Coast (including sections including Stewart), predicting that more snow will come Monday morning followed by rain in the afternoon through to Tuesday.

"A prolonged system continues to bring heavy snowfall with total accumulations of up to 40 cm expected. For this morning, snow will transition to a mix of snow and rain, eventually changing to rain. There is a slight risk of freezing rain during the transition," the warning said.

Monday afternoon until Tuesday night the rain is expected to be heavy, and Environment Canada warned that travel may be tricky.

"Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become difficult to navigate due to accumulating snow," it added.

Coastal sections of the North Coast have a special weather statement in place, with rainfall totals near 150 mm and strong winds expected, from Monday through to Wednesday.

There are also freezing rain warnings in place for B.C. North and South Peace River, Bulkley Valley, Fort Nelson, Lakes District and Stuart — Nechako.

Watson Lake, Teslin, and the Cassiar Mountains have snowfall warnings in place.
