The federal government is set to announce changes to Canada's travel rules on Monday, although the updated restrictions will impact fully-vaccinated Canadians and permanent residents only.

Despite calls to restart international travel ASAP, the feds announced last week that Canada's borders will remain closed to non-essential foreign travellers until at least July 21, 2021.

On Friday, June 18, Justin Trudeau explained what Canada's proof of vaccination system will look like in regards to international travel.

Speaking at a press conference, the prime minister said that "in the initial phase we're going to be working with the ArriveCAN app in ways that people can upload an image of their paper proof of vaccination or online proof of vaccination so that the border agents, on their return to Canada, can verify indeed that they are fully vaccinated."

Public Safety Minister Bill Blair has fired back at Doug Ford after the Ontario premier called on the feds to further restrict international travel into Canada.

In an interview with Power & Politics earlier this week, Blair suggested a recent letter from Ford to Justin Trudeau was an attempt to "deflect and distract" from the ongoing COVID-19 situation in Ontario.
