Family Day falls on Monday, February 17 this year, and since it's a statutory holiday in Ontario, many businesses and services will be closed.
However, not everything shuts down — some grocery stores, malls and attractions will still be open for those looking to shop or explore the city. If you're hoping to pick up groceries, stores like No Frills, Farm Boy and Walmart may have adjusted hours, so it's best to check before heading out. And if you're relying on public transit, the TTC will be running on a holiday schedule.
While Family Day is a provincial stat holiday in Ontario, it's not a federal holiday — meaning banks, postal services and federal offices may still be operating as usual and aren't required to give their employees the day off.
To help you plan your day, we've dug around and rounded up everything that's open and closed in Toronto, from liquor and grocery stores to shopping malls, city services and top Toronto attractions.
Grocery stores
Aisle 24: All locations of this cashierless grocery chain are open 24/7, all year round. You'll just need to download the app and create a profile in order to unlock the door.
Costco: All locations across the GTA will be closed.
Farm Boy: Most locations in Toronto are closed, with the following exceptions:
- College & Bay — open 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.
- Harbourfront — open 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.
- St. Clair — open 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.
- Sugar Wharf — open 10 a.m. to 7
Loblaws & affiliates: All Fortinos, Real Canadian Superstore and Valu-Mart locations in Toronto will be closed. Most Loblaws, No Frills and Your Independent Grocer stores in Toronto will also be closed, but there are a few exceptions:
- Loblaws Carlton Street — open 7 a.m. to 10 p.m.
- Carlo's No Frills North York — open 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
- Nick's No Frills Scarborough — open 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
- Francois' No Frills Toronto (Malvern) — open 8 a.m. to 9 p.m.
- Bruno's Your Independent Grocer Don Mills — open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
- Sandy's Your Independent Grocer Toronto (Beaches) — open 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Metro & affiliates: All Metro, Food Basics & Longo's locations in Toronto will be closed, with the exception of Metro College Park, which will be open from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Rabba: All Rabba locations in Toronto and the GTA are open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, including all stat holidays.
Sobeys & affiliates: All FreshCo locations in Toronto will be closed. Most Sobeys stores will be closed, with one exception, and Toronto's three Foodlands will be open with the following hours:
- Sobeys Urban Fresh High Park — open 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
- Foodland Islington — open 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
- Foodland Danforth — open 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
- Foodland Queen St. E. — open 8 a.m. to 9 p.m.
Summerhill Market: All six locations are open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Walmart: All locations in Toronto proper will be closed. However, select locations in neighbouring GTA spots like Vaughan, Richmond Hill, Thornhill and Markham will be open.
Whole Foods: The Yorkville location will be open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Liquor stores
LCBO: All locations in Ontario will be closed.
The Beer Store: All locations across the province will be closed.
Wine Rack: The following locations in Toronto will be open:
- Danforth & Victoria Park — open 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
- Danforth & Main — open 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.
- Kingston Road — open 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.
- Bloor & Landsdowne — open 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.
- King & Bathurst — open 11 a.m. to 11 p.m.
- Roncesvalles — open 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.
- Etobicoke, Brown's Line — open 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.
- Bloor & Keele - High Park — open 12 noon to 11 p.m.
- Yonge & Dundas — open 12 noon to 10 p.m.
- Dundas St. - The Junction — open 12 noon to 8 p.m.
- King & Shaw — open 12 noon to 9 p.m.
- Bloor & Spadina — open 12 noon to 9 p.m.
- St. Clair Ave. W. — open 12 noon to 11 p.m.
- Church & Wellesley — open 12 noon to 8 p.m.

Shopping malls
Open:
- Toronto Eaton Centre — open 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.
- Toronto Premium Outlets — open 9:30 a.m. to 7 p.m.
- Pacific Mall (Markham) — open 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.
- Square One (Mississauga) — open 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
- Bramalea City Centre (Brampton) — open 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Closed:
- Scarborough Town Centre
- Yorkdale Mall (except for the Cineplex theatre and certain restaurants)
- Fairview Mall
- Sherway Gardens
Services
TTC: The TTC will operate on a holiday service schedule. All TTC routes will operate on their Sunday schedules, except they'll start at around 6 a.m. Any routes that don't normally operate on Sundays won't be running.
Canada Post: As Family Day is not a federal holiday, Canada Post mail collection and delivery will be operating as normal on Monday. However, post offices operated by private businesses may be closed if their host businesses are.
Banks: Most bank branches in Ontario will be closed to observe the provincial statutory holiday.
Service Canada: Open.
ServiceOntario: Physical offices are closed on Family Day, but some ServiceOntario services are available online, so you can still renew your driver's license, health card and more.
Things to do
If you have the day off on Monday and are looking for things to do in Toronto, the following attractions are open on Family Day:
Royal Ontario Museum (ROM): Open 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
Art Gallery of Ontario (AGO): Open 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Casa Loma: Open 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Ripley's Aquarium: Open 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.
Toronto Zoo: Open 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Cineplex: Theatres are open with varying hours based on movie showtimes.
High Park Zoo: Open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. However, note that High Park is closed to vehicles on holidays.
Riverdale Farm: Open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
City of Toronto skating rinks: Many are open — you can check the schedules on the city website here.
Allan Gardens and Centennial Park conservatories — open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
