Here's how much costs to live in Vancouver and how it compares to other Canadian cities
Vancouver is known for its hefty prices, but it remains one of the most popular cities in Canada, famed for its stunning scenery, incredible food scene, and access to nature.
Earlier this month a report broke down just how much it costs to live comfortably in the West Coast city though. So, if you're thinking about a move, or are a Vancouverite looking to get real about the cost of living in the city, look no further.
MovingWaldo ranked the top 10 most populous cities in Canada by how expensive they are to live in, using data from the Canadian Real Estate Association, Realtor.ca, and Zumper. "Additionally, we used Numbeo's data to understand the cost of living in each city, which helps us grasp the amount needed to comfortably maintain a certain standard of living and comprehend the economic dynamics of these cities," it said.
Sorry to anyone in Vancouver, but the city actually took the top spot, for the most expensive in Canada. With its large population and high real estate prices, Vancouver will cost you if you want to live there.
The ranking said that "according to the Vancouver Economic Commission, Vancouver has the fastest-growing and most diverse economy in Canada, which stayed strong even during the pandemic. The city’s economy relies on various competitive sectors like technology, film, digital entertainment, and the green economy."
How much it costs to live in Vancouver
The average 1-bed apartment in the city goes for $2,675, and the average home price is $1,197,700.
The ranking said that the cost of living for the city is a hefty $3793.63 a month.
How it compares
Toronto is often compared to Vancouver, as the other main hub of the country. Although it's not quite as expensive as Vancouver, the cost of living there is $3,523/month — which is still pricey.
Calgary —which is regularly praised for its cheaper real estate prices — came in at 7th place on the ranking, with a $3,210/month cost of living.
The cheapest one on the list was Winnipeg, with a cost of living of $2,697/month.
