Parts Of Ontario Will Get Walloped With A 'Snow Machine' This Week & Whiteouts Are Expected
Although it lowkey felt like spring last week in the province, Ontario's weather is about to get snowy, messy and downright winter-like.
Southern Ontario is going to get blasted by precipitation and blustery winds on Thursday, February 15, according to The Weather Network, and they advise that it's going to cause travel delays and result in "an extremely messy commute home."
The snowy conditions will hit the GTA in the afternoon and evening while Ottawa will feel the effects later in the night, with 5-10 cm expected for the GTA and most other areas expected to get 5-15 cm.
"Drivers are being urged to plan ahead for Thursday's winter weather, especially in a season that hasn't required much winter driving at all," says TWN. "Snow is set to spread across the region, likely making for a slower and quite nasty drive home across southern Ontario."
As if that isn't bad enough, the incoming colder weather will also bring in a "lake-effect snow machine" ahead of the long weekend which will create hazardous whiteout conditions.
"Moderate snowfall paired with 50-70+ km/h winds will reduce visibilities along major highways," advises TWN of the time from Thursday into Friday. "Localized power outages may also occur where the strongest gusts occur."
It's not all bad news, though — the temperatures for next week are expected to be within a few degrees of what is seasonally normal, with no big winter storms on the way.
