BC is set to get another bomb cyclone after this week's destructive and record-breaking storm
A bomb cyclone hit B.C. earlier this week and left destruction in its wake, and now another one is in the forecast. Thousands of people in the province are without power, and just as repairs are being made, another intense storm is set to hit.
People in the province should brace for more rain, winds, and snow this weekend.
The Weather Network said that this week's destructive bomb cyclone set new wind records, bringing gusts of 170 km/h to some areas of the province. Although the storm forecasted for this weekend should be weaker, it will still be classified as a bomb cyclone, " as it will undergo rapid intensification."
As BC Hydro works to repair the damage of the recent storm, this upcoming one could pose a risk for more power and travel disruptions on Friday and Saturday.
Those on the South Coast should soak up Thursday's weather before the incoming wind and rain hits. The western shore of Vancouver Island is in the storm's track, so it may be especially impactful.
"The storm inches towards the coast by Friday, moving closer to shore than the weather bomb early this week. It will be aimed at the South Coast, but it will drift back out to the Pacific by Sunday, just as its predecessor did. Winds will, however, still come from the southeast, though remaining weaker than the previous storm," TWN added.
On Friday afternoon Vancouver is expected to get wind gusts of 50-70 km/h, and West Vancouver Island could get gusts of 80-100 km/h.
Weather alerts are in place for areas around the province, including a special weather statement for West Vancouver Island.
