Alberta's weather forecast is calling for up to 25 cm of snow and 'dicey travel conditions'
Snowfall weather warnings are in effect for areas around Alberta as the province gets a wintry storm, with snowfall totals of up to 25 cm expected in some areas.
The Alberta weather forecast calls for "widespread snow for southern and central Alberta and Saskatchewan," with heavy and blowing snow that could impact travel.
The Weather Network said that throughout Tuesday "as much as 25 cm of snow" is on the line. The snow is expected to be heavy and blowing, making for wintry diving conditions and poor driving visibility at times. "The heaviest snow totals are expected across the Alberta and Saskatchewan border, where as much as 10-15+ cm could pile up through Tuesday," TWN added.
For Edmonton to Medicine Hat, the forecast is calling for over 3 cm of accumulation, which should slow down through the evening. The Edmonton area may be getting less snow, but the weather is still looking messy with a mix of flurries and rain. Areas on the border should see more snow, with less rain and colder temperatures.
"Between 10-15 cm of snowfall is possible along the Trans-Canada Highway between Medicine Hat and Swift Current, Sask., with localized amounts possibly exceeding 20 cm, particularly over the Cypress Hills," TWN said.
This stormy weather is expected to be joined by high winds between 50 and 70 km/h, creating blowing snow throughout Tuesday. Drivers should be aware of conditions, especially those south of Highway 1.
Environment Canada's weather alert for Medicine Hat says that 25 cm of snow is possible, especially over the Cypress Hills, and that the rain should turn to snow on Tuesday morning.
The stormy winter conditions should ease up tonight, but in the meantime "rapidly accumulating snow could make travel difficult over some locations."
