Ford Says More Ontario Regions Will Face Stage 2 Closures If Cases Worsen

He specifically mentioned York Region.

In his media briefing this afternoon, Doug Ford gave Ontarians a strict warning.

The premier was joined by Raptors ambassador Jamaal Magloire, Health Minister Christine Elliott, and President of the Treasury Board, Peter Bethlenfalvy.

When asked if he would move certain regions back to stage 2, Ford didn't hold back.

If the spread continues, the answer is yes.

When asked about York Region, which saw case numbers similar to Ottawa's as of late, Ford agreed the trend was concerning.

"York is teetering right now," he said.

Ford said he has a meeting scheduled with the Health Minister in which they will discuss whether or not York should be under the same restrictions as Toronto, Peel and Ottawa.

"We can't police 14.5 million people," he said when asked about moving the entire province back a stage.

There are currently multiple regions in Ontario which have fewer than 10 cases.

On Thursday, Ontario reported 783 new COVID-19 infections.
