Looking for a new way to spice up game night? Dungeon Tryouts might be your kind of chaos.

Dungeon Tryouts, the new party game from Canadian publisher The Story Engine, is kind of like if Dungeons & Dragons and Apples to Apples had a baby.

The rules are light, the characters are ridiculous, and the goal is simple: Audition the weirdest possible adventurer for an even weirder quest, and hope your friends buy it.

Like, why would a "dwarf who was born in a mosh pit" be the best option to clear out a haunted musical theatre full of singing ghosts? It's goofy, it's fast, it's low-stakes fun.

The team behind Dungeon Tryouts, led by Peter Chiykowski (of Rock, Paper, Cynic and The Story Engine Deck) and Miroki Tong, have raised $2.5 million across 10 previous crowdfunding campaigns. They'e built a niche by making creative prompt decks for writers, gamers and educators — and Dungeon Tryouts is their first step into party games.

The project's writing team includes Ify Nwadiwe and Danielle Radford, both of whom have appeared on the popular tabletop show Dimension 20. It also features guest art from well-known creators like Cyanide & Happiness, Sarah's Scribbles, and John Kovalic (Apples to Apples, Munchkin), adding an extra layer of excitement and fan appeal.

If you're into improv-style gameplay, character roasting or just want something new to throw into your next game night that won't require a 45-minute rules rundown, this one's worth a look. It’s especially good for D&D groups that wish they had time for a full campaign, but realistically just want to laugh at chaotic character builds between drinks.

Dungeon Tryouts is fully illustrated by AC Stuart (CollegeHumor, Your D&D Stories), and you can find it now on Kickstarter.
