The US Is Urging Citizens To ‘Reconsider' Travel To Canada Due To Its High Level Of COVID-19

Canada's risk level has been upgraded, too.👇

Managing Editor, Canada

The United States is urging American citizens to reconsider travelling to Canada, as it says there are "high levels of COVID-19" in the country.

On August 30, the U.S. State Department issued an updated travel advisory for Canada, upgrading the risk assessment from Level 2 to Level 3. This puts Canada in the same alert level category as countries like the Dominican Republic, Germany, Italy and Jamaica, among others.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) also bumped Canada to a Level 3 travel advisory and urged all unvaccinated Americans to totally avoid all non-essential travel to the country.

"Because of the current situation in Canada, all travellers may be at risk for getting and spreading COVID-19 variants," the notice reads.

Just weeks earlier, on August 10, travel recommendations for Canada were lowered to Level 2 and the risk at the time was considered to be "moderate."
