Check your wallet because a brand new colourful coin could slip in! This Wednesday, September 2, the Royal Canadian Mint put into circulation Canada's new $2 coin.

This special piece is being added to circulation to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the end of World War II, the official statement explained.

The new coin displays a "V" for victory, crossed by a torch and framed by two maple leaves. The design is said to be inspired by the five-cent Victory coin created by Thomas Shingles in the 1940s.

The number of pieces in circulation will be limited. There are only three million copies, including two million with colour and one million without.

Banks and businesses will introduce the new $2 gradually, so you can expect to have some in your pockets very soon.
