Health Canada Just Recalled Thousands Of Ceiling Fans Because The Blades Are Flying Off

Over 5,000 have been sold in Canada.

Health Canada has issued a ceiling fan recall because the blades are detaching and going rogue during use.

While there have been no reported injuries in Canada, there have been 47 reports of the blade coming loose in the United States. That includes four reports of damaged property and two reports of the blade hitting a person.

This recall involves the Hampton Bay Mara 54-inch Ceiling Fans in Matte White and Matte Black.  Health Canada

The number codes can be found on a white sticker at the base of the fan and are as follows: 71918 for white and 71919 for black.

According to the recall, the fans were distributed by Home Depot Canada Inc. and 5,091 have been sold in Canada. In addition, 84,828 were sold in the U.S.

If you bought one of these fans between May and October 2020, it’s part of the recall.

If you have one of these bad boys hanging from your ceiling, you should “immediately stop using the fan and contact King of Fans for instructions on how to inspect your ceiling fan for defects. If an issue is identified, King of Fans will offer a replacement or refund,” says Health Canada.

While the idea of detached, spinning blades wasn’t something we saw coming in 2020, it’s very on-brand for the year and we probably should have expected it.

Now, go check your fan.
