Cineplex is offering cheap movie tickets and popcorn in Canada.

But if you want to get the discounted prices, you have to buy tickets and concessions in a certain way.

It was just announced that a $5 Weekend deal is happening at Cineplex Canada theatres across the country.

On Saturday, August 30 and Sunday, August 31, general admission movie tickets and small bags of popcorn will cost $5 each plus tax.

But you have to buy movie tickets and popcorn a certain way if you want to get the discounted prices.

Otherwise, it will cost you more money.

General admission tickets for movies with showtimes on Saturday and Sunday will be $5 when purchased in-theatre.

When buying movie tickets online, the $5 price is only available to CineClub members.

That membership has a $9.99 monthly subscription fee.

Here's how much tickets for this weekend cost before tax when purchased online:

  • $6 for Scene+ members ($5 plus a $1 online booking fee)
  • $6.50 for everyone else ($5 plus a $1.50 online booking fee)

Cineplex said the online booking fee allows you to reserve seats and get shareable digital tickets.

It only applies to the first four tickets you purchase in a single transaction.

You can also get a small popcorn for $5 plus tax when you order from concessions at Cineplex theatres this weekend.

That price doesn't include toppings, which are an extra charge, and it doesn't apply to Poptopia-branded popcorn or concession combos.

You can't get the $5 deal on popcorn when ordering delivery or purchasing through Cineplex mobile ordering.

Tickets for the $5 Weekend deal can be bought starting on Wednesday, August 27.

You can see Caught Stealing, The Roses, Weapons, The Fantastic 4: First Steps, Superman, Freakier Friday, The Bad Guys 2, and more movies with showtimes on Saturday and Sunday.

This offer can be applied to films in 3D, IMAX, UltraAVX, D-BOX, 4DX, ScreenX, Clubhouse and VIP auditoriums, but you'll have to pay an additional surcharge.

Cineplex said that a portion of the proceeds from the $5 Weekend promo will go to the Canadian Picture Pioneers.

It's a charitable organization that supports members of the motion picture industry in Canada.
