British Columbia's premier-designate Lorne Doerkson says he and Prime Minister Mark Carney are aligned on the need to supercharge the economy, attract investment and create good-paying jobs.

Doerkson posted on social media that he had a productive conversation with the prime minister on Tuesday, just days after his B.C. Conservatives won two-thirds of the seats in the provincial election.

He says B.C. has an enormous role to play in driving Canada's economic future and they are ready to lead.

Doerkson attached a readout from the Prime Minister's Office about the same conversation, saying there was agreement to work together to increase growth and economic opportunities for B.C. and Canada.

It says Carney and Doerkson indicated their joint desire for a strong partnership, inclusive of all British Columbians, that can supercharge hope and opportunities for the province.

A statement issued by the New Democrats says the caucus will meet on Thursday, when they're expected to choose an interim leader and "begin the work of being a strong official Opposition," after losing the election.

It says the party will also take a "clear and honest" look at the election campaign and set the timing and process for a leadership race in the weeks and months ahead.

David Eby resigned as the party's leader on Saturday after calling a snap election two years early.
