Flu Shots Will Be Available In Alberta Starting Next Week But Things Will Be Different

"Influenza immunization is more important this season, than ever before." 💉
Contributor

On Wednesday, October 14, Alberta Health Services (AHS) announced that flu shots in Alberta will be available to the public as of Monday, October 19.

While the influenza immunization program is set to begin next week, ASH wants the public to know that the options are different from previous years.

Basically, getting a shot from AHS directly will be reserved for kids under five and their family and people in their household, AHS explained.

It's also mandatory to book an appointment ahead of time.

Everyone else will need to get their vaccines from pharmacists and physicians.

The health service explains that pharmacists can give vaccines to everyone five and up and most doctors can give them to people aged nine and up. It's best to check in advance, just in case.

"Please call a pharmacist or physician to arrange for influenza immunization," says AHS.

Alberta's top doctor, Deena Hinshaw, tweeted out a reminder to Albertans saying "I encourage all Albertans to get their influenza immunization this fall."
