The 'Grand Canyon of the East' is a road trip from Ontario and it's stunning during the fall

It has three beautiful waterfalls.

Lead Writer, Travel

You don't need to fly to Arizona in order to enjoy some epic canyon views. This park is just a road trip away from Ontario and will have you feeling like you're wandering through the Grand Canyon.

Letchworth State Park, located under 2 hours from the Niagara Falls border in New York State, is home to some incredible scenery.

Dubbed the "Grand Canyon of the East," the park features a spectacular gorge with rushing cascades and and 66 miles of scenic trails.

During the fall, the forests surrounding the gorge transform into a tapestry of colour, adding an extra touch of magic to the scene.

The Genesee River flows through the gorge, carving out three epic waterfalls along with a few smaller cascades that appear with seasonal flow.

The waterfalls, called Upper, Middle, and Lower Falls, can be found along the popular Gorge Trail. Upper Falls features a railway crossing above it, while Middle Falls is the tallest waterfall in the park and Lower Falls can be seen from a footbridge.

The Gorge Trail is 14 miles in total and offers stunning panoramic views of the fall colours.

Hogsback Overlook is another spot to check out if you're on the hunt for towering autumn views. It features a lookout over steep ridges and the Genesee River.

You can even take a hot air balloon ride over the park for some extra spectacular fall views.

The park is open year-round, with an entrance fee during busy season, which runs from May until October.

While you're in the area, you can also head to Watkins Glen State Park for more autumn magic and waterfall views.
