Dangerous Hand Sanitizers Keep Getting Recalled In Canada & There Are Health Risks

Do you use hand sanitizer? You might want to check out all the ones that have been pulled off the shelf before you use the one you have. Another hand sanitizer recall in Canada has even more products added to the list of ones that shouldn't be used.

Health Canada has recalled more of these products because of what they're made with.

These items have ethanol or denaturants in them that are not acceptable for use in hand gels and may pose a risk to your health.

Since the ingredients aren't approved for use in Canada, their safety and effectiveness haven't been reviewed.

The most recent update to the list was made on July 27 and all the products expire either in April or May 2022.

Dermogen by Inter Cosmetiques Inc., Hand Sanitizer by JIS Enterprises Inc. (DBA JIS Specialty Products), KS-Progel Plus by Delta Pharma Inc., Sanatouch by Bio Organic Solutions Corp. and Upstreet Do Gooder Hand Sanitizer 65% and 85% by Upstreet Craft Brewing are affected.

Upstreet Craft Brewing is a craft brewery based in Charlottetown, P.E.I., and sales of the sanitizers went towards helping non-profit and community organizations.

There are some reactions to these products that you could experience because of what they're made of.

That includes skin irritation and cracking, eye irritation, upper respiratory system irritation and headaches.

Health Canada said that multiple types of unacceptable ethanol and denaturants have been found in hand sanitizers. 

There is also a list of products that have technical-grade ethanol in them and are being recalled.

Those ones are being taken out of the market because they don't comply with federal regulations and could pose a risk to your health.

Both lists of affected products are updated regularly if you want to keep checking them.

If you have a sanitizer that's on the list, Health Canada recommends you stop using it and consult a health care professional if you have concerns about your wellbeing.

There's also a list for the ones that meet requirements and have been authorized to be sold in Canada.

This recall is just the latest in a string of notices that have been issued recently as Canadians are using hand sanitizer more often.
