In-person workouts are back on the agenda. As many businesses prepare to open up again across the province on July 17, a bunch of Ontario gyms are reopening as part of the process. With enhanced cleaning methods and physical distancing in check, Planet Fitness, GoodLife and Fit4Less are all getting ready to open in the next week.

Several regions across the province have been approved to take the next step in Ontario's reopening process and allow more businesses to reopen in stage three.

That means places like gyms, movie theatres, and even bars can start to welcome people back, all while following health guidelines.

And in the 24 out of 34 regions in the province that can move into stage three, numerous gyms have already announced dates for when they plan to start inviting customers again.

One major gym, GoodLife Fitness, has actively kept its members in the loop, even suggesting a reopening plan in June.

It's now confirmed it will start welcoming people back from this Friday, July 17, when many of its locations will open.

GoodLife gyms in Ottawa, Kingston, Barrie, Guelph, Waterloo, and London are just a few of the many that will open on Friday.

At most locations, masks will be mandatory except while actually working out. However, at the Barrack Street location in Kingston, people will have to wear a mask even while working out, according to the gym's website.

Booking times, enhanced cleaning procedures and physical distancing will be part of the gym experience for most returning customers, regardless of which gym they visit.

Other chains like Planet Fitness will open gyms later on in the month.

According to an email sent to Narcity by Planet Fitness representatives, the first location to open will be in Chatham on Tuesday, July 21.*

Then, on July 22, gyms in Barrie, Lindsay, London, Kitchener, Cambridge, Pembroke, Nepean, Merivale, Cornwall, Brockville, Kingston, Napanee, and Belleville will reopen as well.

"Our team will conduct 20-minute walk arounds of the gym floor to clean and sanitize high-touch areas," said the rep via email.

"Increased sanitization stations will be available throughout the gym floor," they added, among several other efforts to ensure a safe reopening.

Fit4Less has also announced its reopening plans in some cities starting July 17.

Meanwhile, small local gyms are also gearing up to reopen from next week.

For example, HotBod Fitness in Barrie, just north of Toronto, will be opening up its doors again as of Monday, July 20, per CTV News.
