The Florida Film Festival Is Back On For This Summer & It Comes With Some Changes

They're even extending the festival's length!

Besides the obvious hot locales of Los Angeles, New York, and Atlanta, Florida is actually a big contender when it comes to film. Nowhere is that more obvious than at the annual Florida Film Festival, one of only a handful of Oscar-qualifying festivals in the country. This year, the festival faced potential cancelation for its 29th installment due to COVID-19 but has now been rescheduled for this summer.

Originally set for April, the annual festival was postponed indefinitely due to the spread of the novel coronavirus. New dates have now been announced on the festival’s official Facebook page, set for this summer, from August 7 to August 20.

The festival usually runs for 10 days, but to comply with Orange County’s health guidelines, festival officials have extended the runtime to 14 days and plan to keep the Enzian Theater at 50% capacity.

Theater seating has been spread out to promote social distancing, and masks are also required indoors at all times.

The Facebook post also states that they have still retained 90% of their original programming, as well as adding new additions to the lineup for viewers to enjoy.

The official website states that the entire program will be announced on July 15. Individual tickets, day passes, and packages will then be available for purchase that day as well.

The Florida Film Festival, held annually at Orlando’s Enzian Theater, will take place over 14 days this year, which gives viewers four extra days to check out all the flicks — and there are plenty on the roll for you to binge.

The festival showcases over 180 independent and international films in all three Oscar shorts categories, Animation Short, Live Action Short, and Documentary Short.

If you can't wait until the film fest to catch a flick, their socially distanced space is open and ready for movie-goers. The Enzian Theater reopened its doors on June 12 when Florida first began moving into phase 2.
