Over 100 Ontario doctors signed an open letter on Thursday that calls on Ford's government to install stricter COVID-19 rules.

The letter, which was posted via Twitter, strongly criticizes the province's reopening framework arguing that it uses ICU capacity as a "benchmark" while allowing the virus to "run free."

The doctors also warned of the effect that the variants of concern are having on young people and the province's limited vaccine supply.

“We are seeing younger patients on ventilators – many are parents of school-aged children. We are seeing entire families end up in our ICUs,” the letter states.

"Immediate public health interventions are needed today in order to curb transmission and prevent further unnecessary deaths," it adds.
