Dr. Eileen de Villa had a stern message regarding Toronto's COVID-19 cases during her Monday press briefing.

The city's top doctor says she's been "hearing from colleagues at Toronto hospitals that, increasingly, admissions are of younger people and often directly to the ICU."

The doctor warned that "the data continues to paint a picture of a worsening resurgence and escalating cases" and urged Torontonians not to gather over the coming holidays.

"Unfortunately, our track record around holidays isn't very good. [...] Now is not the time to gather. We are not well enough protected. There is no reason to believe that history won't repeat itself," urged de Villa.

Of the 670 new cases of COVID-19 reported in Toronto on Monday, "227 are people between the ages of 20 and 39," says de Villa, which is just below 35%.
