Orlando's JCPenney Is Officially Closing This Summer & Has Killer Sales On Your Fave Items

Locals in The City Beautiful may have noticed quite a bit of revamping going on at the iconic Fashion Square Mall over the past year. While some stores close temporarily for updates, others are shutting their doors for good by the end of 2020. One such spot is the Orlando JCPenney, which is set to close by the end of summer. Until then, however, there are a ton of killer sales to take advantage of, so grab your fave goodies while you still can!

The retail giant filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection just last month, announcing 149 store closures across the county. Seven of those closures are in Florida, including the Orlando Fashion Square Mall location at 3115 E. Colonial Dr.

Narcity spoke to a help desk agent who explained that the tentative final closing date for the store would be by this September. The exact closing date depends on how quickly the last of their products are scooped up by sale-seeking consumers.

Storewide sales range from 25% to 40% off, and those deals could fluctuate as the closing date nears. Until then, curbside pickup will be available as well.

It's no secret that COVID-19 has caused many businesses to struggle. The closure of so many JCP stores could potentially help the retailer grow and prosper again post-pandemic.

“The Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic has created unprecedented challenges for our families, our loved ones, our communities, and our country,” CEO Jill Soltau said in a press release.

“As a result, the American retail industry has experienced a profoundly different new reality, requiring JCPenney to make difficult decisions in running our business to protect the safety of our associates and customers and the future of our company.”

JCPenney is just one of many large and small businesses that have been forced to close or get creative to stay afloat.

Many bars and restaurants, such as Orlando's Halloween Bar, took to selling to-go food and drink packages to customers to keep business going.

Other closing JCP locations in Florida include the Desoto Square Mall, Coralwood Shopping Center, Regency Square Mall, Eagle Ridge Mall, Santa Rosa Shopping Center, and Lakeshore Mall.

Liquidation sales for JCPenney began earlier this month and are set to continue through the summer.
