Other employees across Canada have also tested positive.

Working in retail during a pandemic puts people in an unenviable position. A Loblaws employee's COVID-19 risk is higher than someone who can work from home. This has resulted in some Ottawa workers testing positive for the virus.

According to data from Loblaw Companies Limited, two employees at the 2210C Bank Street Loblaws and one at the 4744 Bank Street Shoppers Drug Mart tested positive for COVID-19.

The two Loblaws team members had not worked since July 26 and August 1. The Shoppers employee had not worked since July 22.

"With any positive cases, the stores work closely with the local public health team," a Loblaws spokesperson said in an email to Narcity, "They have investigated, and advised on all necessary steps that should be taken by those who were in close contact with the colleague in question."

"That includes some of our other team members self-isolating and monitoring for symptoms. There is not believed to be an increased risk to customers."

They added that the stores in question have arranged for additional cleaning on top of the enhanced sanitizing measures already put in place.

The three employees in Ottawa are not the only Loblaw workers in Ontario to test positive within the last 15 days.

A team member at the 113 Herkimer Street Shoppers Drug Mart in Hamilton was also reported as having COVID-19. Their last day worked was July 31.

Stores in other provinces have also had employees test positive within the last two weeks.

Four employees from four different stores in Quebec were all reported as having the virus between July 24 and August 3. Three of them were in Montreal, with another in Magog.

None of them had worked for at least 5 days.

In Alberta, a worker at a Grande Prairie store was reported as testing positive on August 5, with their last day worked being July 27.

In British Columbia, a Real Canadian Superstore team member in Mission was announced as having tested positive on July 29. Their most recent shift worked was on July 24.

No stores in other provinces have reported any cases among their employees in the last 15 days.
