The Prime Minister of Canada has shared his condolences following a violent shooting in Austria on Monday.

Justin Trudeau spoke out about the recent killings, which took place in the city of Vienna and left five people dead and 17 more injured.

He described the event as "an act of terrorism."

Today’s shooting in Vienna is horrific and heartbreaking. We condemn in the strongest terms possible this act of terrorism. Prime Minister Justin Trudeau 

The Canadiam PM took to Twitter to share his thoughts and to stand in solidarity with those affected.

"Our thoughts are with the people of Austria and everyone affected by this deplorable act," he wrote.

The attacker also died and was identified as a 20-year-old "Austrian-North Macedonian dual national," who had a history of prior "terror conviction" according to CP24.

This is the second time in less than a week Trudeau has shared such a message.

On October 29, the prime minister responded to an attack in the French city of Nice, during which three people were killed in a church.

Trudeau called the event an "unjustifiable act" which has "no place in our society."
