Canada is home to so many iconic attractions and bucket list destinations, but a new ranking suggests that not every visitor feels they live up to the hype.
CasinoBonusCA recently looked at thousands of TripAdvisor reviews to discover the biggest money traps for tourists across both Canada and the U.S.
The study looked at the percentage of negative reviews, the number of times words like "overpriced" and "tourist trap" were used, and general visitor sentiment in order to create the "Money Trap Index."
While B.C.'s Capilano Suspension Bridge and Nova Scotia's Peggy's Cove topped the Canadian list, four popular Ontario attractions also made the top 10.
The Toronto Zoo ranked fourth overall, coming in just after the Montreal Biosphere. According to the study, the high food and parking costs were deterrents for visitors.
The CN Tower followed at number five, with expensive tickets and long lines being among the key complaints.
Next are the Niagara Falls attractions, particularly the Clifton Hill Area at number six. CasinoBonusCA notes that visitors refer to it as a "tourist trap around a natural wonder."
The last Ontario attraction named in the ranking is Casa Loma. The historic Toronto landmark placed at number nine on the list and, according to the study, has an "overpriced entry for limited experience."
Of course, reviews are subjective, and many tourists still enjoy these spots for their history, views, and experiences. But if you're planning a visit, it might be worth looking into costs or searching for money-saving hacks in advance to make the most out of your trip.
