This small town near Calgary is the perfect escape for the fall. While others might flock to the cozy mountain towns (and they have their intrigue), this spot offers a different kind of beauty and slow pace.
Drumheller sits nestled in the breathtaking landscape of the Canadian Badlands, just an hour and a half away from the city. It feels like another world when you reach this tiny town, though, with its quirky dino-twist and cozy streets.
Narcity readers recently named this among Alberta's best fall destinations, because it somehow gets even better when the air is crisp and the leaves change colour.
Its slow pace and natural beauty make for a weekend getaway full of adventure. Surrounding the town of Drumheller, you'll find hoodoos, canyons and valleys with a unique beauty to them.
You can wander into the striking U-shape of Horseshoe Canyon and take in the view from one of the platforms above it.
Drive 15 minutes outside of town and you'll reach the famous Willow Creek Hoodoos. The geological formations are stunning natural wonders, and there are pathways to wind you around them.
The town of Drumheller is known for more than its beautiful surroundings, though. It's famed as the Dinosaur Capital of the World — a fact you can't miss once you arrive. Right in town, there are dinosaur statues scattered in the streets, and a massive T. rex to greet you.
Walking around, you'll also pass by cute shops, local boutiques, and cozy cafes. It's a bustling town with lots to do and see.
The Royal Tyrrell Museum is the spot to go to learn more about the dinosaur-filled past of the town.
If you want to have an eerie twist on your getaway, visit Rowley — a ghost town just 30 minutes away. The Travel Alberta website said that this small town is home to only 12 people, adding to the haunting vibe. Walking around the historic streets here will transport you back in time.
