Ahead of the pilot strike, WestJet and Swoop flights are now being cancelled and there are new updates that you need to know about if you're travelling with these Canadian airlines soon.

The WestJet Group — which controls WestJet, WestJet Encore, Swoop and Sunwing — announced in a notice posted online on Thursday, May 18, that airlines have started to shut down their networks.

There was a scary moment aboard a WestJet flight that landed at Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ) on Tuesday night, but the threat of a major emergency was short-lived.

Shortly after the flight landed at Pearson Airport, the engine of the WestJet aircraft caught fire as the engine was being shut down, but thankfully no one was hurt in the incident.

A WestJet passenger was less than impressed when the airline offered him a bus ticket after his flight was cancelled.

Chris Henderson — a Saskatchewan-based musician — told Narcity he was in Alberta for a show and was due to take a WestJet flight from Calgary to Regina on Sunday, February 26. However, he received an email from WestJet to say the flight was cancelled and instead, there would be a bus leaving Calgary at 4:30 p.m.

WestJet has said an incident where a customer's flight details were posted to the airline's social media accounts was down to "human error."

In posts to Twitter and Facebook on Thursday, October 27, which have since been deleted, a document containing the customer's details and flight information was posted and visible to WestJet's followers.
