With much of 2020 having been up in the air at the hands of COVID-19, it might bring you a little nugget of joy to hear that Tampa's free Cuban sandwich festival is still a go this year.

The fest originally slated for March 29 has been pushed to November as Florida's remaining operating restrictions on bars and restaurants are eliminated — but Tampa's Cuban fest will still have social distancing measures of its own in place.

This year will operate as a drive-in event, with handwashing and sanitation stations placed throughout the venue at Centro Asturiano.

Multiple vendors will be competing for different titles, with visitors and a line-up of celeb judges casting their votes for the finalists. The categories include the top 3 Historic Tampa bites, non-traditional, and popular sandwiches, as well as the crowned king of World's Best Cuban Sandwich.

Participants will also have a chance to try their hand at breaking the world record for the world's longest Cuban, with a goal to make it 162 feet long. After the event, it will be donated to a homeless shelter.

The fest will take place on November 8, the day following the Taste of Latino Fest at the same location.

Admission is completely free, you just have to register your spot in advance, as a limit on visitors will help ensure social distancing can be followed — though VIP tickets with extra perks will also be available for purchase.
