Students just got massive bragging rights!
Contributing Writer

U of T students rejoice! In a recent ranking, the University of Toronto was the only Canadian university that made the list of the top 25 best schools worldwide. It also ranked as the number one institution in Canada.

If you're a student at this school in the 6ix, you now have some massive bragging rights.

The University of Toronto has been ranked the top university in Canada according to the Academic Ranking of World Universities.

The school had previously held the title of top Canadian university in 2019.

The renowned university also moved up one position in it’s global ranking this year, putting it as the 23rd best school in the world.

According to U of T, it also ranks seventh among North American public universities and 12th among public universities globally.

"U of T remained the top school in Canada in the 2020 edition of the ranking, which looks at more than 2,000 universities and is based on academic prowess, research impact, and the quality of its faculty, as measured by an array of indicators," reads an excerpt from a U of T press release.

The Academic Ranking of World Universities first started back in 2003.

Some of the factors that go into ranking the schools include its number of Nobel Prizes and Fields Medals as well as its highly cited researchers.

“These results reflect the University of Toronto’s position as a world-leading public research university that boasts top-notch faculty and produces exceptional graduates across a wide range of disciplines,” Cheryl Regehr, U of T’s vice-president said in a news release.

However, the University of Toronto wasn't the only Canadian school that made it on the list.

The University of British Columbia was ranked number 38 worldwide.

The Vancouver-based school actually dropped in the rankings compared to 2019 where they stood at number 35.
