The federal government has confirmed that all travellers entering Canada will need a negative COVID-19 test before boarding — even if they’ve already been vaccinated.

In a notice shared last week, the government’s official travel Twitter page explained that nobody is exempt from the new incoming travel restrictions.

According to officials, all incoming air passengers (except for children under the age of five) will have to show a negative COVID-19 test before boarding their flight.

This applies to all travellers, regardless of their nationality or citizenship.

The rule, which was implemented on January 7, 2021, also applies to those who have been vaccinated against COVID-19 already.

Travellers entering Canada are required to download the ArriveCan app, as well as provide documentation proving they've had a negative test and showing their plans for quarantine.

The Canadian government continues to urge against all non-essential travel, both internationally and domestically.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has warned that new travel restrictions could be updated at any time and Canadians abroad could end up stranded outside of Canada.
