A Canadian filmmaker won an award at the 2024 Oscars and he gave his hometown of Halifax a big shout-out at the awards show.
Nova Scotia filmmaker Ben Proudfoot won an Oscar for Best Documentary Short for the film The Last Repair Shop in L.A. on Sunday.
Proudfoot was joined on stage by co-director Kris Bowers and 12-year-old student Porché Brinker.
Although Proudfoot didn't get to give Canada a shout-out while he was accepting the award on the stage, he did share some love for the East Coast on the red carpet.
"I just wanna say hi and all my love to my family back home in Canada from coast to shining coast. I love you Halifax, Nova Scotia," Proudfoot told Etalk during an interview.
Other Canadians who were nominated for Oscars this year included Ryan Gosling for best supporting actor for his role as Ken in Barbie.
Director Celine Song's film Past Lives was nominated for Best Picture and Best Original Screenplay, and Quebec filmmaker Vincent Rene-Lortie's film Invincible was nominated for the Live-Action Short award.
The documentary To Kill a Tiger, which was directed by Toronto-based Nisha Pahuja, was nominated for best documentary feature.
The late musician Robbie Robertson was also nominated for his work on the original score for Killers of the Flower Moon.
