Have you downloaded it? Canada's COVID Alert app hasn't gone national just yet but there are preparations being done to make sure everything is ready when that happens.

The exposure notification app was updated on September 2 to allow for more provinces and territories to be included.

However, that doesn't mean that every province and territory is on board just yet.

Health Minister Patty Hajdu's office told Narcity that the update happened in preparation.

Updates are made to COVID Alert to ensure that it’s ready as more provinces sign on.

There are ongoing discussions between the federal government and the provinces and territories to get them to sign on to letting residents use the app.

Currently, it's available for download all over the country but only people in Ontario can actually use it.

If you test positive, you'll get a code that you enter into the app and then the app will let people know if they've come in close contact with you.

The health minister's office said that if other provinces and territories sign on, Canadians will be updated.

According to CTV News, COVID Alert was downloaded about 2.2 million times in the first month it was available but only about 100 positive tests have been reported through it.
