It’s been a busy week when it comes to COVID-19 in Canada. Since Monday, the country has hit multiple significant milestones, including reporting over 300,000 total cases of the illness.

According to data shared by the federal government, there were 50,878 active cases of COVID-19 in Canada as of Monday, November 16.

This is an increase of 4,802 from the previous day, taking the country’s total case-count to 302,192.

In just 24 hours, the number of current cases surpassed 50,000, while the total number of positive tests exceeded 300,000.

They weren’t the only grim milestones hit on Monday, either.

As of November 16, Canada’s related death toll passed 11,000 for the first time.

According to the government's data, 90.9% of these deaths were reported in Quebec and Ontario alone, where case numbers continue to climb.

Both provinces, as well as regions like Alberta, B.C. and Manitoba, continue to report record-high figures.

Despite the concerning statistics, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau says news of vaccines is "encouraging" and suggested shots could arrive in the country by early 2021.
