Burger King is in the hot seat after sending what many are calling a sexist tweet on International Women's Day.

The tweet, posted from the chain's U.K. account, was meant to announce a new scholarship program that will help female employees get into culinary school, but it seems to have completely missed the mark.

Burger King tweeted "women belong in the kitchen," intended to get people to read the rest of its informative thread.

However, the post led to backlash from many on Twitter and even rival fast-food chains.

KFC hopped into the conversation, saying the tweet should have been immediately deleted.

Brooklyn Nine-Nine star Chelsea Peretti did not find any humor in the tweet, as she believes Burger King now belongs somewhere else.

The fast-food chain even took out a full-page advertisement in the New York Times using the same statement.

Hours after defending its initial Tweet, the Burger King U.K. account deleted the thread and apologized on Twitter.

"We got our initial tweet wrong and we’re sorry... We will do better next time," the chain promised.
