All hail the Canadian queen! In her latest film, Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga, Rachel McAdams blows audiences away with her hilarious performance. The film was recently released on Netflix, and viewers can’t stop raving about it.

On Friday, June 26 the McAdams-led film made its way onto the streamer. The 41-year-old plays the role of Sigrit Ericksdottir, an Icelandic school teacher with a passion for singing.

In her musical pursuits, Sigrit often collaborates with her long-time friend, Lars Erickssong (played by Will Ferrell). As it turns out, she also has a bit of a crush on her partner, but he’s convinced that their musical career should come first.

When the Icelandic duo are given the opportunity to represent their country in the annual Eurovision Song Contest, also known as one of the world’s biggest musical competitions, they pull out all the stops to ensure that they impress.

However, an onstage mishap and scheming rivals find the pair’s bond to be tested, but they come out stronger than ever in an attempt to prove their many doubters wrong.

In an interview with AV Club, McAdams revealed that the amount of singing she did during filming caused her to lose her voice.

“I was really hoarse, I’m like ‘I’m not even really going to be singing on this’ and I was losing my voice by the end of the big finale,” she said.

As it turns out, much of the Canadian star’s vocals were mixed with that of a Swedish vocalist’s, although she did actually sing on camera so it didn’t appear that she was lip-syncing.

Eurovision Song Contest may have only recently premiered, but it’s already scored an impressive 83% audience rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

It seems that the film has been received with more lukewarm reviews from critics, as it’s Tomatometer score is just 57%.

“‘Eurovision’ leaves you wanting more for Sigrit, someone who deserves to dream bigger than the screenplay allows her to,” a review from the Los Angeles Times reads.
