Shoppers have revealed their favourite grocery stores in Canada and why these are the best places to shop.

You might expect the top stores to just be discount retailers with lower prices, but that's not the case.

Narcity recently posted on Facebook and asked people to share their favourite grocery stores and why they shop there.

Canadians have revealed almost 20 retailers across the country that are go-to places for groceries, including national chains, discount stores, and local retailers.

These are the top three favourite grocery stores, according to Canadians:

  1. Costco
  2. Real Canadian Superstore
  3. Farm Boy

"I can believe how useful and money-saving Costco is," someone commented. "Costco is the one grocery store I don't think I could do without."

Another shopper said that all of Costco's products are high quality, which is why the wholesale retailer is their favourite.

Someone else said Costco is their favourite grocery store because of the product variety and the bulk sizes.

Real Canadian Superstore is a favourite for pantry staples like cereal, crackers, pasta and canned goods, according to one shopper.

Others said Superstore is the go-to grocery store because of price matching, "high quality" produce, meat and dairy products, and PC points that get you money off purchases.

Someone commented that Farm Boy is their favourite grocery store because the products are "always fresh."

After that, No Frills is fourth, Longo's and Giant Tiger are tied for fifth, and Save On Foods, Walmart and Metro are tied for sixth as Canada's favourite grocery stores.

No Frills is a favourite for one shopper because of the "simple, low cost."

"I shop the sales, buy whatever I can afford," someone said about No Frills.

For one Canadian, Save On Foods is the go-to store for bread and specialty items.

Someone said that Walmart is their favourite "because of the low prices and variety of products."

Another person commented that Walmart has "better quality" products at better prices.

FreshCo, Loblaws, Sobeys and IGA didn't get as many comments as the top stores, but some people named them as their favourite grocery stores to shop at in Canada.

Someone shared that FreshCo is their favourite grocery store because it price matches with Food Basics, No Frills, Walmart and Superstore.

"Don't need to go anywhere else," they said.

Another person shared that they go to Sobeys for fruits and vegetables.

When it comes to IGA, one shopper said the retailer is a go-to because it often stocks what other stores don't have.

A few people told Narcity that Food Basics, Fortinos and Dominion are their favourite grocery stores in Canada.

Then, Safeway, Super C, and Supermarché PA only got one comment each.

Someone said Super C is the top grocery store because it always has fresh fruit and vegetables at competitive prices.

Recently, Canadians also revealed which grocery stores in Canada they think are the best, and so many of these favourite stores also made the best stores ranking!

That includes No Frills, Costco, Superstore and more.

If you're wondering what Canada's cheapest grocery stores are, Narcity compared prices at top retailers to find out where you can get the cheapest grocery essentials.

It turns out that discount stores don't always have the cheapest prices.
