One Ontario city could be extending its mandatory mask policy right through until next year.

Kitchener's mask policy currently requires residents to wear masks in all public indoor spaces and on transit.

Now, City Council is considering extending that bylaw — potentially until the end of May 2021, CTV News reports.

May 31, 2021 should get us through the flu season and [...] the prospect of having community spread of COVID-19.

Regional Chair Karen Redman

According to the council's agenda, they will consider the bylaw extension at their meeting next week.

The council cites the need to keep COVID-19 transmission low during the flu season, as well as the recent school reopenings, as reasons for the potential extension.

If the extension is approved, it would come into effect on September 28, 2020.
