You'll Need To Quarantine When Travelling To These States From Arizona This Summer

Strict guidelines when venturing to the east coast.

You might want to update your travel plans this summer. Three east coast states will require Arizona residents to quarantine before visiting. The new joint travel advisory applies to individuals voyaging from high infection rate states to New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut.

Governor Andrew M. Cuomo of New York made a joint announcement Wednesday morning saying, "people coming in from states with a high infection rate must quarantine for 14 days."

Arizonians who plan on making trips to these east coast states must undergo a 14-day quarantine before being allowed in the city.

Such news comes after the state has reported a surge in COVID-19 cases. As of Wednesday, June 24, 2020, the Arizona Department of Health Services noted 1,795 additional new cases for today alone.

Out of all of the people who tested for the novel coronavirus, 8.7% of them test positive.

If you plan on making a trip to the east coast soon, it's essential to know that the imposed quarantine is effective at midnight on Wednesday.

Cuomo went on to say, "we have a calibration for the infection rate, and any state that goes over that infection rate" will be subject to this advisory.

The calibration "applies to any person arriving from a state with a positive test rate higher than 10 per 100,000 residents over a 7-day rolling average or a state with a 10% or higher positivity rate over a 7-day rolling average."

Spikes in positive cases have prompted some city officials to require residents to wear face-coverings when in specific public spaces.

The following cities have mandated face masks until further notice, including Phoenix, Scottsdale, Gilbert, Avondale, Bisbee, Chandler, Flagstaff, Glendale, and many more.

"We've worked very hard to get the viral transmission rate down, and we don't want to see it go up again because people are traveling into the state and bringing it with them," said Cuomo.

It looks like you might want to reschedule your summer plans if you're looking to escape the desert heat.
