You don't need to travel across the border to enjoy a dreamy summer getaway. This gorgeous Ontario destination is a beautiful spot to explore, and readers say that it's even better than a trip to the U.S.

On Narcity Canada's Facebook page, we asked readers to share what Ontario destinations they think are better than a trip to the U.S., and this enchanting city with European vibes was one of the spots mentioned.

Offering a quaint downtown, scenic river strolls and summertime charm, it's a magical spot for a day trip or weekend escape — no passport required.

Stratford is a historic city known for its beautiful architecture and theatre scene.

The city, which feels more like a small town, offers a range of things to enjoy during the summer months.

One of the most popular attractions is the Stratford Festival — a series of modern and Shakespearean plays that runs annually from April to October. This year, you can see shows like Annie and Macbeth.

You'll want to spend some time wandering through the old-world downtown and exploring the local boutiques, where you'll find everything from books to chocolate.

You can also enjoy some delicious restaurants and cafes, such as Bluebird Restaurant & Bar and Balzac's.

Or, adventure along some of the city's self-guided food tours, like the Chocolate Trail or Bacon & Ale Trail.

The city is home to a number of scenic areas where you can take a stroll. The Shakespearean Gardens offer a range of flowers and herbs mentioned in the famous playwright's works.

You can also rent a canoe or pedal boat from The Boathouse and enjoy a picturesque float along the Avon River.

Other places to explore include the Stratford Perth Museum, Gallery Stratford, and The Little Prince Micro-Cinema & Lounge.

With its old-world charm, one-of-a-kind attractions, and storybook downtown, readers say Stratford is worth skipping the U.S. for.
