You don't need to book a flight to Arizona in order to experience the beauty of the Grand Canyon. There's a smaller version of this natural wonder near Ottawa and it's a magical spot for a summer road trip.

Located about three hours from the city, this gorgeous destination offers tours and other experiences that let you explore the majestic canyon.

You can float through towering sandstone cliffs, hike past misty waterfalls and rock climb over a rushing river.

Here's what to know about this stunning spot.

The Ausable Chasm is a scenic spot located in the Adirondack Mountains of New York. Established in 1870, it's one of the United States' oldest natural attractions and has been nicknamed "the Grand Canyon of the Adirondacks" due to its surreal sandstone cliffs and breathtaking vistas.

There are a number of activities to experience while visiting this destination. One of the most incredible things to do is the River Tubing adventure which allows you to float between the massive cliffs.

The Riverwalk Tour is another amazing experience. The tour takes you over suspension bridges, past waterfalls and to breathtaking lookouts. This year, the Riverwalk leads into the Devil's Oven area, where you can see a majestic cave by the river.

If you want to enjoy multiple activities, you can book one of the tour packages. These give you access to a number of stunning hikes and rafting or tubing experiences. The most popular package is the Classic Tour, which is a "2-part tour that allows visitors a complete end-to-end visit of the chasm with a trolley/shuttle return to the welcome centre once completed," according to the website.

The tour begins with a hike around areas such as a primeval Adirondack Forest, Rainbow Falls and Mystic Gorge. Next, you will board a raft and float your way through the narrowest and deepest section of the Ausable Chasm.

Afterwards, you'll have the opportunity to explore the Rim Trail for birds-eye views of the chasm.

Reservations aren't required but it's a good idea to come early in order to avoid the crowds.

If you're looking for a unique summer adventure, the "Grand Canyon of the Adirondacks" is worth a road trip. Don't forget your passport!
