This new Ottawa restaurant isn't your typical dining experience. The upcoming venue will have you eating in complete darkness with no phones or lights to illuminate your table.

Dark Fork is a "blind dining" culinary experience that's opening its doors this fall in the ByWard Market. The restaurant allows patrons to get a taste—literally—of what it's like to dine as a visually impaired person.

Opening on September 25, 2024, Dark Fork will immerse you in a pitch-black dining room without any light from phones, luminous watches or anything else that might disturb the blind dining experience. It's one of only 15 to 20 dark dining restaurants globally and is the first of its kind in Ottawa.

Upon arriving at the restaurant, you can view the menu in an illuminated lounge area and choose from meals such as steak frites, crusted chicken parmesan and fish of the day.

There's also an option to order a surprise meal and drinks to add to the "in the dark" experience.

For the starter and main course, the chefs will bring a surprise dish to the table that's aligned with dietary preferences and allergies as best as possible.

Once you've taken a look at the menu, you'll be brought to your table in the completely dark dining room.

According to a press release, "the darkness of the restaurant transforms a prime dining experience into an unrivalled tactile and sensory adventure, allowing sighted people to experience life without vision, along with a correspondingly heightened sense of taste and touch."

All of Dark Fork's servers are visually impaired and a guide server will explain where you can find everything on your table as well as access to the lighted restrooms.

If you're up for a unique dining experience, you'll want to check this new Ottawa restaurant out.
