Oysters and prosecco; some might say they're a match made in heaven reserved only for those truly special occasions in life. But what if I told you that you could get them every Friday — free of charge — at Ottawa's very own Grounded Scratch Kitchen, Coffeehouse & Bar.

Located at 1545 Carling Ave, this restaurant is truly a hidden gem in Ottawa and although it may seem too good to be true, we can promise that it's genuine. It's exactly what it sounds like: free oysters and prosecco with no strings attached. Yes, really!

Perhaps the best part about this spot is that you can also get complimentary refills of that bubbly goodness. As long as you get topped up within happy hour (which is between 4:30 p.m. and 5:30 p.m.), feel free to ask your server to "top off" your glass, of course within reason. After all, you are sharing with everyone else in the restaurant!

If you haven't heard of this spot before, Grounded Scratch Kitchen, Coffeehouse & Bar is a hidden amethyst among the unassuming office buildings of the Carling Executive Centre.

To find it, head over to 1545 Carling Ave, and look for the middle tower. As you enter the marble-filled lobby, you'll notice signs leading you into Grounded's one-of-a-kind dining room, as well as their perfectly sun-lit patio.

If you plan on getting your hands on some oysters and bubbly on the house; it's highly recommended to book a reservation ahead of time as the entire restaurant can and will fill up.

You can try your luck if you want to attempt a walk-in, but you'd be much better off reserving a table in advance if you're not flexible with your plans — especially if you'll be pulling up with the whole squad.

Grounded has been offering an hour of free oysters and prosecco for several months now and it's the ultimate social hour. It originally started off as a buffet-style deal, where anyone could help themselves to a platter of oysters and a glass of that classy fizzy drink for adults.

However, some patrons were unfortunately a bit too greedy and took a slightly more than their fair-share. To remedy this issue, the wait-staff will now serve you two oysters at a time along with a glass of prosecco delivered directly to your table. You are free to ask for more of either, but you're politely asked to do so in moderation.

The oysters are served with a lemon slice and a spicy bright-red sauce that'll wake you right up, but that pairs well with the incredibly tasty seafood goodness.

Each Friday there is a limited amount of oysters and prosecco, and it's up to the staff to make sure everybody gets equal access to the only completely free oysters and bubbly in the capital.

Grounded has been around since 2010 and is a coffeehouse and bar targeted at nearby business professionals wanting to wet their beaks while getting down to business during the day. This hidden gem prides itself in its edgy and creative atmosphere and delicious menu, which promises all kinds of delicious entrées, cocktails, coffee, and appetizers.

As much as you can just head to the restaurant, load up on the free goods, and then head out, there are so many other delicious menu items to sample before you go.

The menu is filled to the brim with unheard of flavour combinations that just end up working so well. The halloumi, for example, is chopped up, fried until golden, and then paired with grounded pistachios, fresh strawberries, mint leaves and topped off with a tasteful hot-honey drizzle. Priced at just $14.00 (in addition to your freebies), this is 100% a must-try if you're a fan of sweet and savoury flavour combos.

Of course, there are plenty of classic dishes available on the menu too, like the 1985 Smash Burger for $16.00.
