Jagmeet Singh Says Paid Sick Leave Is Essential For All Canadians Right Now (VIDEO)

He says Trudeau is focused on "triggering an election" instead.
Managing Editor, Canada

When it comes to protecting Canadians during the pandemic, Jagmeet Singh says paid sick leave in Canada is absolutely essential.

In a new video, shared via Twitter, the NDP leader revealed that he had three goals to focus on when Parliament is back in session next week.

This includes getting paid sick days for people who need it, getting profits out of long-term care facilities and making sure all Canadians can get vaccinated.

Speaking specifically about paid sick leave, Singh described it as, “one of the best tools to keep people safe given the workplace transfers of COVID-19.”

It’s an issue he has brought up on several occasions in the past, after previously calling on the federal government to ensure all Canadians are able to get compensated time off if they become unwell during the pandemic.

“New Democrats are ready to fight for you,” the party leader concluded on Saturday, January 23.

In the same message, Singh accused the prime minister of focusing on triggering a federal election, instead.

While Trudeau has maintained that his party does not want another election, he previously admitted that it "could well happen" before the year is out.
