This Meadow-Filled High Country Trail Takes You Through Lush Forests In Arizona

It looks just like a painting! 🤩
Contributor

Don't let 'nonsoon' season get you down, just head up to the mountains for your daily dose of green. Thompson Trail in Arizona winds you through lush meadows, forests, canyons, and a stream if you're craving some water views. This high country journey will make you forget you're living in the desert.

If you've got a day or two to spare, you can take a road trip up to the Apache-Sitgreaves National Forests for a day in nature.

It's about a 4.5-hour drive from the Valley, meaning you can make a weekend or random weekday trip out of it.

The Thompson Trail is located here, and the woodland path follows along the Black River with some of the most breathtaking views.

The journey is about 6.5 miles roundtrip, and the Forest Service says that the hike is "generally level."

You'll want to make a stop here as most of the mountain is snowed in at least half of the year!

April through May is one of the best times to visit because of this reason.

Call up your crew and get ready for the ultimate adventure. With no permit fees, you can splurge on some extra snacks if you want to take your time and explore.

During your trek, you'll encounter a calming stream and waterfall. Just be sure to bring drinking water as the flow is untreated, and there's no restroom at the trailhead.

At times, parts of your hike will be wet and soggy, so you can expect to get a little wet.

But if you're craving some monsoon rain, the water will feel extra good.

Don't let the heat get you down; you can drive up north and enjoy the scenery outside of the city.

Happy hiking!
