A New Logo In Canada Tells You If You're Buying From A Woman-Owned Business

Be on the look out. 👀
Contributor

There's a new online logo that will let you know if you're shopping directly from a Canadian woman.

The icon, which was just launched by Women Business Enterprises Canada Council (WBE), will let you know if a product or service is made or offered by a woman-owned business in the country.

According to the council, the logo will be vital in "the recovery and growth of Canadian women entrepreneurs."

"WBE Canada is steadfast in its commitment to the growth and success of Canadian women-owned businesses," Silvia Pencak, president of WBE Canada, said.

"I want to encourage consumers and buyers within corporate and government supply chains to support women-owned businesses during the recovery and growth of the Canadian economy.”

A release from WBE said that women-owned businesses adapted to the pandemic at a faster rate than other businesses. In fact, it stated that 55% of these businesses created a way to still sell and reach their customer base regardless of the situation they found themselves in.

What's more, 34% of businesses that are mostly woman-owned said that they altered their services and products to maneuver through the pandemic.

However, women in Canada continuously took major losses, with apparently 61% of women-owned businesses losing contracts, customers and clients as a result of COVID-19.

The council says that supporting women-led initiatives is more important than ever before.

"Buying from women-owned businesses is good for the economy. It’s good for our communities. It’s good for Canada."
