A police officer in Ajax, Ont., has been charged in a child exploitation investigation.

The 31-year-old man was arrested last week after the Ontario Provincial Police received a report about the sexual exploitation of a young person.

He faces two counts each of luring and making sexually explicit material available to a person under 16, and one count each of the same charges but related to a person under 18.

Other charges include the possession of child sexual abuse material and indecent exposure to a person under 16.

Durham police confirmed in a statement the man is a constable with the service.

They say he's been suspended without pay pending the outcome of the court case.
